Five works currently online from our Michael Cronin exhibition:
Michael Cronin was born in 1969 in Brisbane, Queensland. As a young man Michael moved to the town of Katherine in the Northern Territory. It was here that Michael found his inspiration in art from local Aboriginal artists. He soon purchased works by renown painters Lorna Fencer Naparrula and Paddy Fordham and came to know them as friends.
In 2001 Michael moved to Adelaide to work as a butcher. He fi rst started painting as a stress relief not knowing how much he would love and enjoy it.
As a self taught artist Michaels paintings draw from his immediate feelings and emotions and because of this they convey a natural spontaniety and expressive power. His life experiences of growing up in Far North Queensland and living in the Northern Territory refl ect in his works and are imbued in the layers of each work. These experiences are shown primarily in the relationship of colour which he uses to create energy with the sometimes subtle capillary motions of his brush paintings to the vigorous slashes of colour in his pallet knife works.
Michael has a deep passion for everyhing that he encounters in life and fi nds power from acknowledging what lies beneath the normal in everyday life.
